The Hyderabad unit of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally seized shares worth Rs 27.5 crore of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and land worth Rs 377.2 crore of Dalmia Cements (Bharat) Limited (DCBL) in a money laundering case related to quid pro quo investments. However, DCBL said that the value of the seized property is Rs 793.3 crore. This seizure has been done 14 years after the case was registered.
This money laundering case is related to an FIR registered by the CBI in 2011, in which DCBL had made an investment in Bharati Cement Corporation Private Limited. According to the ED, this investment was made in Jagan’s companies in the form of a payment of Rs 95 crore, in return for which a mining lease of 407 hectares in Kadapa district was transferred to DCBL.
The ED and CBI alleged that under an agreement between DCBL and Jagan, shares of Raghuram Cements Limited were sold to French company PARFICIM for Rs 135 crore, out of which Rs 55 crore was given to Jagan in cash through hawala. On April 8, 2013, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Jagan and other accused under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the IPC.
