Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited Mayo Hospital in Lahore on Thursday and ordered the removal of the Medical Superintendent (MS) due to widespread mismanagement and poor patient care. Patients and their families complained about unavailable medicines, poor hygiene, and lack of essential supplies. The CM, moved by a patient’s story, promised immediate action and accountability for the negligence. She directed staff to conduct an inventory check, improve supplies, and implement a renovation plan. An inquiry into the hospital’s management was also ordered, and the Punjab government plans to overhaul the administration to improve care and ensure necessary medicines are available.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir visited Bannu following a terrorist attack on the cantonment. Two explosive-laden vehicles were rammed into the perimeter, resulting in 18 deaths, including five soldiers who were martyred. COAS Munir vowed to bring the planners and facilitators of the attack to justice, emphasizing the barbaric nature of the attack targeting civilians. He condemned the use of Afghan soil by terrorist groups like the TTP and reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to take necessary action. The army chief visited injured soldiers and praised the troops’ swift response. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa officials assured compensation for victims and pledged to reconstruct the damaged mosque and provide relief to the families.
A letter addressing alleged bribery by court staff at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has emerged. The letter, written by Justice Babar Sattar’s secretary, urges an investigation into the matter and strict action against those involved. It highlights complaints that court staff are demanding money from litigants and lawyers despite receiving salaries. The letter calls for reviewing CCTV footage to verify the allegations and emphasizes that accepting money constitutes bribery, undermining justice. The issue is attributed to transferred staff from other high courts, and it stresses that such malpractice must be eradicated to maintain the IHC’s integrity. The IHC acting chief justice’s office has confirmed receiving the letter.
