A French woman, Anne, was scammed out of $850,000 by a fake AI-generated Brad Pitt. The scam began when a fraudster, posing as Pitt’s mother, reached out, claiming her son needed a relationship. Over the course of a year, Anne received personalized AI photos and messages, convincing her she was communicating with the real actor. The scammer claimed Pitt was unable to access his finances due to his divorce and a supposed cancer treatment, pressuring Anne to send money for medical expenses. Eventually, Anne, who had divorced her wealthy husband, realized the hoax after seeing reports about Pitt’s real-life girlfriend, Ines de Ramon. Struggling with mental health issues, Anne filed a police report but faced cyberbullying after the story went viral. TF1, which aired the segment, removed it after journalist Harry Roselmack condemned the harassment directed at Anne.
