Outrage over the rape and murder case at RG Kar Hospital has intensified as new allegations come to light. The case, which has already sparked widespread protests, has been further fueled by claims that a senior police officer attempted to bribe the victim’s parents to cover up the incident. While the TMC has denied these charges, videos have surfaced showing the parents accusing the police of corruption, as well as another video where they deny the bribe allegations but continue to demand justice for their daughter.
India Today has obtained a letter revealing that the hospital’s principal ordered renovations near the crime scene, raising suspicions of a deliberate cover-up. On Wednesday, anger erupted as hundreds participated in a candlelight protest, switching off their lights in a symbolic gesture. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose joined the demonstration by turning off Raj Bhavan’s lights and lighting a candle in solidarity. In Cooch Behar, violence broke out during a ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest, resulting in clashes with Trinamool Congress workers and a police crackdown. Thirteen protesters, including women, have been arrested, and police have been deployed to maintain peace in the area.
