Transparency international released its 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index on Tuesday, 11 February 2025 at 6:01 CET (12:01 EST).
The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) is the leading global indicator of public sector corruption, providing an annual comparative snapshot of 180 countries and territories. The index for 2024 is calculated using data from 13 external sources.
What Is the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI)?
The Corruption Perceptions Index is a widely recognized global indicator of public sector corruption.
The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sectors are perceived to be by experts and business people.
Data Sources and Indices Used
The CPI score is derived from a combination of at least three data sources drawn from 13 different corruption surveys and assessments.
These data sources are collected by reputable institutions such as the World Bank and the World Economic Forum.
The surveys and assessments used include questions about the frequency and extent of bribery, the strength of anti-corruption measures, and the overall perception of corruption in the public sector.
Understanding the CPI Score
The CPI score ranges from 0 to 100, where 0 indicates a perception of highly corrupt public sectors and 100 indicates a perception of very clean public sectors.
The score reflects the perceived level of corruption in a country’s public sector, providing a comparative snapshot of corruption levels worldwide.
