A veteran Horry County police officer is out of a job as part of an internal investigation related to a deadly 2023 shooting involving a prominent North Myrtle Beach businessman.

Earlier this month, Horry County Administrator Barry Spivey sent a letter to South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Chief Mark Keel, requesting the agency to reopen its investigation into the case as the lead investigative body. Horry County Council Chairman Johnny Gardner also reached out to Gov. Henry McMaster, asking his office to intervene and urge SLED to investigate.
