India’s youngest IAS officer, Pooja Singhal, had a promising career that took a dark turn which exposed a deeper issue within Indian bureaucracy. Initially, she earned accolades for her early achievements but in 2022, she became the center of a multi-crore corruption scandal. Singhal’s case highlights the systemic flaws in the IAS. Despite her alleged involvement in laundering public funds and operating fake companies, she managed to stay in power for years, thanks to a system that rewards compliance over reform.
The IAS is therefore called the most-organized Mafia. At the core of this problem are several issues – rampant corruption, frequent transfers, and a rigid focus on paperwork. All of which prevent IAS officers from driving real change. In this video we explore in detail these issues and how they have turned the-once-known ‘Steel Frame of India’ into an ‘Iron Cage’.
