AgustaWestland Scam: Middleman Michel Granted Bail | Who Will Be Held Accountable? | NewsX

#AgustaWestlandCase | British national Christian Michel James, the alleged middleman in the Rs 3,600 crore AgustaWestland chopper deal, is awaiting the Delhi High Court’s decision on his bail plea. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a case against him in connection with the scam. The deal, signed in 2010, involved the Indian government purchasing 12 helicopters from Finmeccanica. The scam emerged in 2012, revealing that bribes were allegedly paid to Indian politicians and bureaucrats to influence the deal. Michel, identified as one of three middlemen, allegedly received Rs 225 crore from AgustaWestland, with bribes routed through companies in the UK and UAE. The ED charged him with money laundering in 2014, and he was extradited from the UAE in 2018. After being granted bail by the Supreme Court in a CBI case, his fate in the ED case will be decided soon.
