Report: External Pressures Driving CSR Efforts

0

Just over one in 10 of working professionals say their organizations’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs are driven by “doing the right thing,” according to a survey by training platform Skillsoft.

Rather than altruism driving the conversation, the Skillsoft survey found that external pressures like customer feedback, government mandates and public perceptions are their organizations’ primary motivation for CSR efforts like DEI, fair trade and improving labor policies. Notably, 40% of respondents in Skillsoft’s 2022 survey said CSR efforts were inspired primarily by doing the right thing compared to 13% this year.

A few other key findings of Skillsoft’s survey of nearly 900 global workers:

  • 84% say generative AI will affect ESG reporting and decision-making.
  • 86% of people say their organization has an ESG program, while only 71% say they also have a CSR program.
  • The health and security of employees and community members remained respondents’ top way to measure CSR success for the second year in a row. New this year, industry and awards recognition, ranked second, followed by greenhouse gas emission levels.
