Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols recorded his 3,167th career hit on a fourth-inning single against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night to set a new record for foreign-born players.

Pujols broke a tie with fellow Dominican Adrian Beltre when he singled home a run as part of a four-run inning for the Angels. He entered the contest tied with Beltre at 3,166.

Pujols is now in sole possession of 16th place on baseball’s all-time hit list, 17 back of Cal Ripken Jr. for 15th.

Earlier this season, the 39-year-old Pujols hit his 650th home run and collected his 2000th RBI. He entered Wednesday hitting .239 with 18 home runs and 67 RBIs in 95 games.
