South Carolina football’s first 2024 commitments eager to help recruit more for class

Dante Reno finally has some help.

Reno, the quarterback from Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut, was the lone South Carolina football commit for Class of 2024 when he made his pledge on July 2. Now, Reno has some company after Woodland offensive lineman Kam Pringle committed to the Gamecocks on Sunday.

“It means everything. Kam is one of my best friends and to be able to play with him now officially just made my whole year,” Reno told The State. “He’s an awesome player and comes from a great family.”

Moments after Pringle’s announcement, Reno posted a picture of Pringles chips with Kam Pringle’s face on the cylinder.

Reno has been outspoken on social media in weeks leading up to Pringle’s announcement. It got to be a little too much that Pringle didn’t respond to Reno.

“Me and Dante have been talking a little but I kind of stepped away from him a little bit to get him off my trail so he didn’t know where I was committed,” Pringle said. “But we are definitely going to be hot recruiting.”

Pringle and Reno have their sights on getting more players into the fold quickly, with Dillon offensive lineman Josiah Thompson at the top of the list.

Like Pringle, Thompson is a coveted, in-state product in an area of need on the offensive line.

Thompson congratulated Pringle on his commitment and has the Gamecocks in his final six, along with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Miami and Tennessee.

“I’m all in and I’m going to recruit who I have to recruit,” Pringle said. “I’m coming after Josiah. He is another great offensive tackle and he is in-state. So, it would be great to have him as well.”

Other Class of 2024 guys Reno and Pringle hope to help out with are tight end Michael Smith, linebacker Wendell Gregory, ATH Jonathan Paylor and two more in-state guys in Greenville’s Blake Franks and Mazeo Bennett.

Smith will announce his choice on Tuesday, and Gregory is set to reveal his on Friday.

“The momentum Kam’s announcement has already caused within the last two hours is incredible,” Reno said. “We are going to land a bunch this week and within this month.”
