Alec Baldwin Will Reportedly Continue Filming ‘Rust’ Movie Despite Recent Criminal Charges Over Halyna Hutchins’ Death • Hollywood Unlocked

Despite the recent criminal charges thrown against Alec Baldwin, the actor is committed to finishing production for the film, “Rust,” it has been reported. As previously reported, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died after being struck by a live round of ammunition fired from a “prop gun” during rehearsals back in October 2021. While Baldwin held the gun, he vehemently denied pulling the trigger.

The 64-year-old was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter this week over the tragic shooting, New Mexico Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies confirmed. But Baldwin is said to have refused to back down from finishing the movie despite all of the controversies that have surrounded production since Hutchins’ passing.

A source told the New York Times that there will be an extensive list of safety measures the crew will have to follow once filming resumes, having also banned any live ammunition and working weapons from the set.

Furthermore, while the movie was initially expected to continue filming out in New Mexico, where it originally began production two years ago, producers are now looking to change locations over to California, though this has not yet been confirmed. Baldwin had previously settled a wrongful death lawsuit with Hutchins’ widower, Matthew, in October, followed by the news he’d be joining the crew as executive producer of the motion picture.

Matthew released a statement after reaching a settlement with Baldwin, writing, “I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”

But after Baldwin was officially charged with Hutchins’ death this week, via the family’s attorney, they are said to be “supporting” the decision, with their lawyer insisting that “no one is above the law.”

“We want to thank the Santa Fe Sheriff and the District Attorney for concluding their thorough investigation and determining that charges for involuntary manslaughter are warranted for the killing of Halyna Hutchins with conscious disregard for human life,” attorney Brian J. Panish shared.

“Our independent investigation also supports charges are warranted. It is a comfort to the family that, in New Mexico, no one is above the law.”

“We support the charges, will fully cooperate with this prosecution and fervently hope the justice system works to protect the public and hold accountable those who break the law.”
