Vice President Lai Ching-te has been elected the new chair of Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party with a mission to get the party back to winning ways for the next presidential and legislative elections in 2024. The country’s main east coast highway has been cleared of debris from a landslide last week that blocked off traffic, but safety restrictions have led to long lines of waiting vehicles.
