Criminal Terrorism-Support Charges

What’s in this whitepaper from Tom Fox:

The DOJ recently announced a guilty plea from Lafarge, a French cement company, and its Syrian subsidiary to settle charges that the companies provided material support for terrorist activities.

Combined, they’ll pay more than $750 million in penalties, and while the charges don’t fall into Fox’s normal bailiwick (FCPA violations), the podcaster and compliance thought leader explores lessons corporate compliance teams can take from the case.

As he says, the case is “perhaps the first corporate matter since the oil-for-food cases where complete moral bankruptcy has played such a factor.”
