A police officer is accused of intimidating a BPD anti-corruption officer who was investigating whether the cop was violating the city’s residency requirements.
Officer Matthew Morrissey was arraigned on witness intimidation charges in the Dorchester Division of Boston Municipal Court on Monday. He pleaded not guilty.
Morrissey is accused of going to the home of the anti-corruption officer, and blocking access to the house with his truck. Morrissey rolled down his window and stared at the fellow officer, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.
“All of us in law enforcement are supposed to protect the residents of the municipalities in which we serve, and we are rightfully held to the highest standard,” said DA Kevin Hayden. “The actions of Officer Morrissey are troubling on many levels: He lied about where he lived, and he intimidated a fellow officer who had placed him on administrative leave.”
Judge Thomas Kaplanes released Morrissey on personal recognizance, and ordered him to stay away from the fellow officer’s home and the anti-corruption division of the Boston Police.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for April 21.
