Mboma wants out of Newton agreement

CHRISTINE Mboba has instructed her lawyers to cancel her agency agreement with Newton Sport Agency following a fallout over finances.

In a letter issued to the media on Friday morning, Mboma said she had instructed her legal representatives, Francois Erasmus and Partners, to cancel the agreement ‘after months of correspondence with them (NSA) proved fruitless.’

“My lawyers indeed cancelled the contract in writing on 7 September 2022, receipt of which was acknowledged by Newton’s lawyers, Brookes Attorneys of Durban,” she said.

“The cancellation was based on Newton’s failure to timeously and comprehensively reply to my demand to provide a full and comprehensive exposition and reconciliation of my financial affairs with the agency. After months of attempts to obtain a full explanation Newton Agency still failed to provide me with all the relevant and requested data. As a result, I cancelled the agreement,” she added.

Mboma said she was currently taking advice on further steps to be taken to resolve the issues which led to the cancellation and will not comment further on the matter until further notice.

On Wednesday, NSA issued a press release saying it was considering taking legal action against Mboma’s coach Henk Botha for ‘false and defamatory allegations.’

NSA also threatened legal action against two Namibian dailies, New Era and Namibian Sun, after they reported that “Mboma is desperate to sever ties with the company.”

In the reports, carried by the two publications last week, Botha confirmed that their lawyers were working on ending her association with the agency following a fallout over finances.
