Why Did US Court Filed A Case Against Gautam Adani… #telugu #business #reels

The hares of the Adani Group saw a sharp decline on Thursday, November 21, 2024, following the announcement by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of charges against Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, Sagar Adani, and Cyril Cabanes, an executive of Azure Power Global Ltd. The charges involve allegations of bribery and fraud.

Adani Group stocks dropped significantly, with shares of some companies plummeting as much as 20% in intra-day trading. Adani Green Energy Ltd, the primary company implicated in the case, experienced a steep decline of 17.44%, falling ₹246.25 to ₹1,165.50 as of 11:45 am IST. Similarly, Adani Enterprises Ltd, the group’s flagship company, saw its shares drop by 20.29%, losing ₹572.20 to trade at ₹2,248.00.

The SEC accused Gautam and Sagar Adani, along with Cyril Cabanes, of misleading U.S. investors in a bribery scheme allegedly designed to secure government commitments to purchase energy from Adani Green and Azure Power at inflated rates. The U.S. regulator stated that during the scheme, Adani Green raised over $750 million from investors, including $175 million from U.S. investors, while Azure Power’s stock was actively traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

The SEC’s complaint seeks permanent injunctions, civil penalties, and officer and director bans against the accused. Sanjay Wadhwa, Acting Director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, said, “As alleged, Gautam and Sagar Adani induced U.S. investors to purchase Adani Green bonds through misleading statements about the company’s anti-bribery compliance and its senior management’s conduct. Cyril Cabanes, as director of a U.S. public company, was part of the bribery scheme.” He further emphasized the SEC’s commitment to holding senior corporate officials accountable for securities law violations.

The allegations have led to significant fallout in the stock market, casting a shadow over the Adani Group and its financial dealings, while U.S. regulators push for stringent legal action.
