Frank Abagnale talks about his younger days which eventually became the plot for the movie “Catch Me If You Can”.
Frank Abagnale is a former con artist, check forger, and impostor who gained notoriety in the 1960s for his various crimes, all committed before he turned 21. He is best known as the subject of the 2002 film Catch Me If You Can, where he was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio.
Abagnale’s real-life criminal activities included successfully impersonating a Pan Am pilot, a doctor, and a lawyer, all while cashing millions of dollars in fraudulent checks. He flew over 1,000,000 miles for free by pretending to be a pilot, and he managed to work as a supervisor of resident interns at a hospital for a time, despite having no medical qualifications.
After being captured and serving time in prison, Abagnale eventually became a consultant for the FBI, helping them combat fraud. He later founded a consulting firm that advises businesses on preventing fraud.
