Uruguay National Day – United States Department of State

On behalf of the United States of America, I send my sincere congratulations to the Uruguayan people on their independence bicentennial.

The United States and Uruguay share an enduring commitment to democracy. Our constitutions are two of the oldest that are still in use today. We also share a commitment to promoting security in our region, dismantling transnational criminal organizations and other forms of organized crime. Our nations also remain committed to advancing economic and trade interests that make our region safer, stronger, and more prosperous.

I look forward to many more years of cooperation that will mutually benefit the American and Uruguayan people.
