United States Welcomes Mauritius’s Signing of the Artemis Accords

The Department of State congratulates the Republic of Mauritius on joining the Artemis Accords. Mauritius is the 70th country to sign the Accords to date, pledging its commitment to peaceful exploration and use of space.

Mauritius’s Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, Mr. Navindsing Jugmohunsing, signed the Accords on behalf of the Republic of Mauritius on July 17, 2026. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Sarah Troutman and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Mauritius Craig Halbmaier witnessed and celebrated the signing at a ceremony in Ébène. The United States and Mauritius share longstanding partnerships spanning diplomacy, science, education, security, trade, and economics. Both countries see growing commercial opportunities in space and technology, and the Artemis Accords create new avenues to strengthen collaboration in these emerging industries.

The United States and seven other countries established the Artemis Accords in 2020 to serve as a set of practical principles to guide responsible space exploration. Mauritius joins the United States and 68 other nations in affirming the Accords’ principles for sustainable civil space activity. The Department of State and NASA lead the United States’ outreach and implementation of the Accords.
