Turmoil in Turkey; Israel’s Ground Incursion | Horizons Middle East & Africa 03/20/2025

Markets are in turmoil in Turkey after the detention of the Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. Israel has started a ground incursion into Gaza, raising concerns about a return to all-out war. The Federal Reserve has downplayed the risks to US growth and say the inflation impact of tariffs could be ‘transitory’. President Trump’s tariffs against China are having an impact on emerging markets. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has agreed to pause strikes on energy assets as the US pushes for a ceasefire with Russia.
