Secretary Rubio’s Call with French Foreign Minister Jean Noël Barrot

The following is attributable to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott:

Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.  The Secretary and Foreign Minister agreed to continue cooperation in diplomatic efforts to bring the Russia-Ukraine war to an end through a negotiated settlement with measures in place to secure a lasting peace.  The Secretary conveyed the United States’ strong opposition to any unilateral recognition of a Palestinian State, a move that would reward Hamas for October 7 and hinder efforts to bring all hostages home.  The Secretary and Foreign Minister also discussed Iran, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
