It’s not about being rude; it’s about respecting your time and theirs. Freeloaders often reveal themselves by wasting your time or lacking anything of value to offer. As business leaders, we only have so much capacity each day, so every meeting, call, or email needs to align with our goals. If it doesn’t, I’ve learned it’s okay to say no and focus on what truly matters.

Networking and collaboration are essential, but they need to be approached strategically. I’ve noticed that the most impactful connections come from people who are curious and interested in building something together—not those just flaunting success or seeking a handout. Whether it’s avoiding unnecessary meetings, asking thoughtful questions, or being intentional about who I spend time with, these practices have helped me protect my focus and ensure that every interaction leads to growth and mutual benefit.
