Police Misconduct in Highland Park! (REACTION!!)

In May 2020, body camera footage captured a disturbing incident involving Highland Park Public Safety Officer Damien Player. Officer Player tased a man who was walking away, causing him to violently strike his head on concrete and lie motionless.

An internal investigation found Player violated policies, but instead of being fired or charged, he was merely reassigned to the fire department by the city attorney. This misconduct was then covered up when Player applied to the Warren Police Department – his personnel file made no mention of the tasing incident.

Less than two years later, the video shows Officer Player, now with Warren PD, pulling a truck driver out of his vehicle during a traffic stop. Player can be seen tasing the man repeatedly as his partner throws him to the ground. The victim was charged with nothing, but the city paid him $400,000 to settle just a month later.

Player and his partner were finally fired and criminally charged. But this could have all been avoided if Highland Park was transparent about Player’s prior misconduct. The video exposes how police departments failing to hold officers accountable allows bad apples to stay employed and continue abusing citizens elsewhere.
