Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has officially launched the National Anti-Corruption Strategies (NACS) 2024-2028. This new plan emphasizes effective corruption prevention, enhanced governance, and integrity in public services and government-related companies.

A New Era in Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Efforts

Replacing the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) 2019-2023, the NACS 2024-2028 is a crucial part of Malaysia’s reform agenda. It outlines comprehensive core strategies aimed at combating corruption across the country.

In his address, Prime Minister Anwar stressed the importance of taking corruption seriously and urged all sectors of society, including the public, to actively participate in addressing this issue.

Comprehensive Involvement

“When we launch this (NACS) agenda, of course, the pillar is still the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), but it also involves the Inland Revenue Board, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Immigration Department, the Customs, and other agencies that need to ensure that this country will not repeat past mistakes, but rather be more determined to fight corruption,” Anwar said.

He expressed confidence in Tan Sri Azam Baki, the MACC chief commissioner, and the MACC’s capability to lead the fight against corruption. Anwar emphasized that the fight against corruption would be pursued regardless of rank or status, ensuring that the message is clear to all Malaysians.

“I have confidence in Azam and the MACC who have been given trust, mandate and support to fight corruption… regardless of one’s rank and status so that the people get a clear message,” Anwar stated.

Key Components of NACS 2024-2028

The NACS 2024-2028 is structured around several key strategies:

  • Strengthening Institutional Integrity: Enhancing the capabilities of institutions like the MACC and other enforcement agencies.
  • Public Participation: Encouraging active involvement from the public to create a culture of integrity.
  • Preventive Measures: Implementing robust preventive measures to detect and deter corrupt activities.
  • Legal Reforms: Updating and reinforcing legal frameworks to ensure comprehensive anti-corruption laws and regulations.

Looking Ahead

The launch of NACS 2024-2028 signifies a renewed commitment from the Malaysian government to combat corruption effectively. With a multi-faceted approach and broad institutional involvement, the new strategy aims to foster a transparent and corruption-free environment in Malaysia.
