On September 11, 2024, Nabil Shukair, a Palestinian-American, was arrested and tased without charges by police officers in Simi Valley, California, following an anonymous call labeling him a “Hamas supporter.”
On April 23, 2025, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on his behalf and released footage of the arrest.
The video shows officers drawing their firearms and tasing Mr. Shukair within seconds, rendering him unconscious and dragging him from his home.
“This case highlights the discrimination Arab Americans face when unverified, racially motivated accusations are immediately accepted,” said ADC National Legal Director Chris Godshall-Bennett.
“Mr. Shukair was confronted by officers with guns drawn in his own home, tased unconscious, and subjected to illegal searches. The officers’ actions were driven by anti-Palestinian racism and must be held accountable,” Godshall-Bennett added.
