Pahalgam Attack | Malegaon Blast-Pragya Thakur | Sonia & Rahul Gandhi- National Herald | Taj Mahal

In today’s legal roundup, the Supreme Court directed the Centre to verify citizenship claims of a family facing deportation to Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, offering interim relief. The Court also disposed of a plea challenging Pragya Singh Thakur’s bail in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, noting the NIA court has reserved judgment. Meanwhile, a Delhi court issued notices to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald money laundering case. In an environmental ruling, the Supreme Court made prior permission mandatory for tree felling within 5 km of the Taj Mahal, even on private land. On criminal law, the Court clarified that in gang rape cases, a penetrative act by one accused can implicate others if common intention is established. Additionally, petitions against the now-repealed 1982 J&K law allowing return of pre-1954 migrants to Pakistan were dismissed, with the Court citing non-enforcement. These rulings reflect the Court’s ongoing intervention in matters of constitutional law, criminal justice, environment, and citizenship rights.
