National Herald case: ED files charge sheet against Sonia, Rahul

The Enforcement Directorate has filed a prosecution complaint against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, and others, in an alleged money laundering case related to the Associated Journals Limited, which owns the National Herald newspaper.

Special judge Vishal Gogne examined the chargesheet, which was filed on April 9, on the point of cognisance and posted the matter for further proceedings on April 25.

The Hindu reports that the complaint has been filed under Sections 44 and 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. “The supplementary charge sheet has named Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, party’s overseas chief Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey as accused,” a source told The Hindu.

The ED probe started in 2021, based on a June 2014 order issued by a Patiala House court metropolitan magistrate, following a private complaint filed by senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. The accused have refuted the charges on multiple occasions.
