On behalf of the Government of United States of America, I congratulate the people of Colombia as they celebrate their Independence Day on July 20. On this occasion, we reflect on the ideals of liberty and justice, which guided the founders of both of our nations in their fight for independence. The history of diplomatic relations between our two countries spans more than 200 years. Our ties have been rooted in democratic values and strong institutional cooperation in pursuit of more stable societies. It is my hope Colombia can once again contribute to a safer, more secure, and more prosperous hemisphere.
