‘Lost everything’: Kerala’s healthcare workers caught in UK visa ‘scam’ | BBC News India

Indian nurses and care workers make up a significant portion of the UK healthcare workforce. In 2023 and 2024, Indian nationals received over half of the 60,000 care visas issued. However, many now struggle with heavy debt and exploitation, having paid exorbitant fees to recruiters and middlemen-some for jobs that never even materialized. The BBC’s Nikhil Inamdar reports from Kerala, in southern India.
