In a troubling instance of cyber fraud, a 31-year-old doctor residing in Secunderabad fell victim to a FedEx parcel scam, losing Rs 5.80 lakh in the process. The doctor received a call from someone claiming to represent FedEx, alleging that a parcel addressed to him contained narcotics destined for Iran from Mumbai. The caller further asserted that the doctor’s Aadhaar details were linked to illegal activities, specifically narcotics trafficking and money laundering. Taking the scam a step further, another individual posing as a Mumbai police cybercrime unit official contacted the doctor. This impostor warned of imminent arrest due to the misuse of his Aadhaar information in financial crimes, pressuring the doctor to comply with their demands.
