In responding to a journalist, Trump suggested that he might be prepared to offer exemptions to individual US companies, but that he would decide instsinctively. In other words, he is open to arbitrarily giving tariffs exemptions. This invites bribery. It might not be monetary, though. Trump may use tariffs as a way to get political compliance.
