Former Rep. Smith testifies against Casada, Cothren alleged money laundering scheme

The federal corruption trial of Tennessee’s Former Speaker of the House, Glen Casada, and his former chief of staff, Cade Cothren, had eye-opening testimony from a key witness: Former State Representative Robin Smith.

She and the prosecution alleged that Casada and Cothren used deceptive practices to use taxpayer money to line their pockets. Smith told jurors that Casada and Cothren hid their identities to mislead constituents and legislators, evidenced by text messages.

Federal prosecutors argued their case against Casada and Cothren on the 5th day of the trial on Monday.
