The Standing Committee on Public Accounts has called for strong systems and internal controls to be established in the departments of Health and Justice, to protect the state against the actions of fraudulent law firms.
This comes after the Special Investigating Unit gave a damning report about the scale of fraud by lawyers when instituting medico legal claims against government.
The Special Investigating Unit was briefing Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts yesterday on the latest development in its probe into allegations of fraud in medico legal claims.
It says it has managed to recoup more than three-billion-rand from these fraudulent claims.
For more on this matter, we’re now joined virtually by the head of the Special Investigating Unit Advocate Andy Mothibi and Standing Committee on Public Accounts Chairperson Songezo Zibi.
