Deputy Secretary Landau’s Meeting with Solomon Islands Prime Minister Wale
Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Solomon Islands Prime Minister Matthew Wale to discuss ways to strengthen and deepen the U.S.- Solomon Islands bilateral relationship. Deputy Secretary Landau and Prime Minister Wale signed a Letter of Intent to return Peace Corps to Solomon Islands. Deputy Secretary Landau highlighted the new Development Finance Corporation Investment Initiative Agreement with Solomon Islands as well as the recent success with the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s Threshold Program. He also announced the State Department is providing $6 million in new funding to expand its unexploded ordnance removal program in Solomon Islands. Deputy Secretary Landau expressed his hope to visit Solomon Islands and to see the reminders of our shared sacrifices during World War II.
