Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Qatari Minister of State Dr. Mohammed Al Khulaifi in Washington, D.C. They discussed President Trump’s upcoming trip to Qatar and the importance of building our strong economic and commercial relationship. They also discussed Qatar’s continued engagement with the Syrian interim authorities to provide stability and assistance to the Syrian people. The Deputy Secretary thanked Qatar for its support to Lebanon’s security and economic development and expressed appreciation for Qatar’s continued efforts in securing the release of American citizens from Afghanistan. The Deputy Secretary also thanked Qatar for its role in attempting to mediate conflicts in Africa and other parts of the world. They reaffirmed the strong U.S.-Qatar partnership and the importance of close coordination to address shared global issues.
