The below is attributable to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott:
Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met on September 25 with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld in New York on the margins of the 80th United Nations High-Level Week. Building on Secretary Rubio’s September 4 visit to Ecuador, they reaffirmed the strong U.S.-Ecuador partnership and emphasized their shared commitment to advancing regional security and combating transnational organized crime, ending illegal immigration, and promoting economic prosperity.
The Deputy Secretary recognized Ecuador as a leader in our region and commended its efforts to host and integrate third-country nationals. The Deputy Secretary underscored the importance of enhancing information sharing, strengthening the government and judicial response to organized crime and law enforcement collaboration, and supporting regional initiatives to disrupt criminal and narco-terrorist networks.
Deputy Secretary Landau reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to working alongside Ecuador to build a safer and more secure hemisphere.
