The below is attributable to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott:
Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met today with Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner in Washington, DC. They discussed opportunities to work together as the DRC prepares to assume a seat on the United Nations Security Council. They also discussed the violence in eastern DRC amid the recent advance of M23, backed by Rwandan forces. The Deputy Secretary conveyed the United States expects the full adherence to and implementation of the Washington Accords and is prepared to take action to enforce adherence. They agreed on the tremendous potential for private sector investment to undergird peace and stability in the region and benefit all parties.
