Deputy Secretary Landau’s Meeting with Chinese Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu today on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.  Deputy Secretary Landau emphasized the need for constructive communication that leads to progress on a range of bilateral issues. Deputy Secretary Landau advocated for concrete action by China to halt the flow of fentanyl and its precursors into the United States and stressed the need for continued cooperation on the return of Chinese citizens who do not have a right to remain in the United States.  The Deputy Secretary and Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma also discussed a range of regional and global matters, including threats to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, the Russia-Ukraine war, and Haiti.
