Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau spoke today with Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Funakoshi Takehiro. The Deputy Secretary and the Vice Minister reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Japan Alliance and their shared commitment to enhancing economic security and bolstering deterrence to advance a free and open Indo-Pacific, building on the momentum of President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae’s successful March 19 summit in Washington.
The senior officials also discussed the situation in the Persian Gulf and their commitment to strengthening secure, reliable supply chains for essential infrastructure and key industries.
