Maharashtra’s government plea seeking transfer of CBI’s case against former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh is dismissed by the Bombay High Court. The court also rejected the CBI’s summons to Maharashtra DGP Sanjay Panday. In his ruling, the Bombay High Court stated that there is no argument to be made that the CBI should not be entrusted with the probe. As a result, the Central Bureau of Investigation will continue to examine Anil Deshmukh’s extortion case. Under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Maharashtra’s former Home Minister is accused of instructing subordinate Mumbai police officers to collect protection money of Rs 100 crores from various enterprises such as bars, restaurants, and other businesses.
