On the night of March 3, 2021, Sarah Everard was walking home in London when she was stopped by Wayne Couzens, a Metropolitan Police officer. Pretending to enforce COVID-19 restrictions, he falsely arrested her, handcuffed her, and forced her into his rental car. Couzens then drove Sarah to a remote area near Dover, where he assaulted and ultimately took her life. Afterward, he attempted to cover up the crime by burning her remains and disposing of them in a pond. Following an investigation, Couzens was arrested, and he later confessed. In July, he pleaded guilty, and in September, he was sentenced to life in prison.
