The extent and nature of the punishment imposed on the former president could be determined shortly by the judge presiding over Donald Trump’s civil fraud trial. In the past, Judge Arthur Engoron has stated that he intends to make a determination by Wednesday January 31, regarding the appropriate punishment for the former president and his real estate company, The Trump Organisation, in relation to the fraud accusations made by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Trump is accused of inflating the worth of his properties and assets through years of false financial statements, which he filed to get better loans or tax incentives. Long denied any misconduct, the former president now maintains that the investigation against him is a politically driven “witch hunt.” James’ lawsuit includes six other claims, including conspiracy, falsifying business records, and insurance fraud.
