Washington Today (5-17-23): Pres. Biden open to aid program work requirements in debt ceiling deal


President Joe Biden expresses confidence that a deal to raise the nation’s debt ceiling can be reached before a default expected in just a few weeks, as negotiators from the White House and the office of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy meet to discuss federal spending levels
House Republicans want to link the two. The President saying today the talks over those two issues are not related.

President also says he is open to a House Republican demand of putting in place work requirements for some federal assistance programs..
