Rep. Frost Walks Out of House Hearing on Guns

0

Rep. Maxwell Frost angrily walked out of a House Judiciary Committee hearing on guns on Thursday, saying the proceedings had ‘nothing to do with policy and everything to do with politics.’

The hearing, organized by the committee’s GOP majority, titled ‘ATF’s Assault on the Second Amendment: When is Enough Enough?’ At one point, the hearing was interrupted by protests from Manuel and Patricia Oliver, who lost their son Joaquin in the 2018 Parkland shooting. The Olivers were removed from the room and Manuel was arrested in the Capitol hallways shortly thereafter.

‘Manuel and Patricia Oliver were just kicked out of this committee hearing on gun violence,’ Frost later tweeted. ‘Patricia said one thing and the chair escalated the entire situation. Then, Police arrested Manuel Oliver who lost his son in the Parkland shooting. His son was shot to death.’

Prior to running for Congress, Frost himself was affiliated with March For Our Lives, a gun reform org formed in the wake of the Parkland attack.
