From the frying pan into the fire, IMF rejects Pakistan’s loan plan

IMF review mission has rejected Pakistan’s revised Circular Debt Management Plan. International agency has pushed the Pak Govt to increase the electricity tariff. IMF review mission led by Nathen Porter arrived in Islamabad on January 30. IMF, Pakistan will continue to hold talks to complete the pending 9th review under USD 7 Bn EFF. Pakistanis continue to suffer as crisis-hit Pakistan remains embroiled in a vicious circular debt. Circular debt occurs when one entity facing problems with cash inflows fails payments to its suppliers. IMF has called the revised CDMP “unrealistic”, which is made on the basis of certain wrong assumptions. Pakistan Govt will have to make changes in its policy prescription to restrict losses of power sector, reported The News International.
