Iranian couple jailed for 10-1/2 years for posting dance video on social media

An Iranian couple has been sentenced to 10-1/2 years in prison for posting a video on social media of themselves dancing.

Amir Ahmadi and his partner Astiaj Haghighi, two bloggers, were arrested on November 1, 2022, after they posted a clip of them dancing at Tehran’s Azadi Square.

The couple was also banned from carrying out any online activities and from leaving Iran for two years after the end of their jail term.

Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court had charged the two with “encouraging corruption, assembly and collusion with the intention of disrupting national security and spreading propaganda” against the Islamic Republic.
