A federal judge delayed sentencing of a former state welfare director in a case about misspending money intended to help needy families.
John Davis pleaded guilty to federal and state charges in September 2022 and agreed to testify against others in the state’s largest public corruption case.
His sentencing was originally set for February 2nd, but federal prosecutors filed papers on January 20th seeking a delay.
The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi approved the request today.
Davis led the Mississippi Department of Human Services from February 2016 through July 2019.
