Cape Coral woman arrested for embezzling over $3 million from SWFL business

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A Lee County woman was arrested yesterday after scheming to defraud her former company.

Carolyn Pilgrim, a 41-year-old in charge of Action Manufacturing & Supply’s accounting department, had been depositing money into a private account, according to a press release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

$3 million in checks were made payable to the company in a separate account under Pilgrim’s control.

Pilgrim authorized payroll in her name from the company’s other locations. Using this tactic, Pilgrim turned her $70,000 salary into a $575,000 salary.

Her scheming lasted from 2017 to 2022. In August of 2022, a company contacted the FDLE about suspected embezzlement.

“Hearing of the charges that are being held against her to the capacity is a surprise,” a neighbor of Pilgrim said.

But the thought of this crime being done by Pilgrim didn’t come as a shock to those that live around her.

“Any type of activity along these lines is not surprising at all,” the neighbor said.

Pilgram was taken to the Lee County Jail and put in a no-bond status pending her first appearance. The investigation is still ongoing.

Pilgrim was charged with one count of scheme to defraud (over $50,000) and one count of grand theft (over $100,000), both first-degree felonies.
