Corruption, Conspiracy and Cover-up on Jersey: Graham Power

0

This is the account by the chief of Jersey police of his experience before and during the Jersey child abuse scandal.
He came to Jersey following a long and distinguished career in the police in England and Scotland. He was appointed Chief Officer of the States of Jersey Police (the ‘paid’ police as opposed – sometimes literally – to the island’s honorary police). He had to start his work there by tackling police corruption and arms trafficking. He soon became embroiled in the Jersey child abuse scandal, supporting his deputy, Lenny Harper, in Operation Rectangle against ferocious attempts to close the investigation down. Eventually he was suspended by the Jersey government in a process later proved to be unlawful.
The censored section is in recognition of Frank Walker’s reputation for being litigious.
Graham Power had previously been the Assistant Inspector of Constabulary for Scotland, in which post he worked directly with Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary in inspecting Scottish policing. His career had covered a wide range of senior level experience which included leading the policing of the 1997 Commonwealth Conference, working directly with the Justice Minister in addressing issues arising from the enquiry into the death of Stephen Lawrence, planning and commanding over 60 Royal and State visits, as well as leading an independent enquiry into the handling by the Grampian Police of the murder and abduction of a local boy.
